Antibiotic Classes
Modern antibiotics are presented by hundreds drugs for infection treatment. All antibiotics are grouped into classes by the pharmacological properties.
Different antibiotics have different chemical compound and provide different action.
Antibiotics classes:
Penicillin - a class including Amoxicillin, Ampicillin, Augmentin. Penicillin provide bactericidal action
Cephalosporin — a class similar to Penicillin, used in treatment of bacteria resistant to Penicillin.
Macrolide - a class with bacteriostatic effect including Azithromycin, Erythromycin, Vilprafen.
Tetracycline — a class with bacteriostatic action, used in treatment of urinogenital infections, Siberian ulcer, skin infection. Doxycycline, Tetracycline, Unidox.
Aminoglycoside — a class of antibiotics with high toxicity used in treatment of blood infection and peritonitises. Gentamycin, Neomycin, Kanamycin)
Laevomycetinum — a class with wide bacteriostatic action.
Glycopeptide - a class with bactericidal action and bacteriostatic action in some cases. Vankomicyn. Glycopeptide.
Lincosamides — a class of antibiotics providing bactericidal and bacteriostatic action, depending on infection. Include Lincomycin, Clindamycin.
