Antibiotic Pharmacodynamics

Pharmacological antibiotics action is observed in cellular level. That is their feature in contrast to other medications.

All antibiotics are classified into two groups: bacteriostatic and bactericidal antibiotics.

Pharmacodynamics of bactericidal antibiotics destroys bacteria, and pharmacodynamics of bacteriostatic ones affects the bacterium production. Each group is characterized by activity relating to certain bacteria types. Therefore, depending on bacteria type, patients are indicated with one of antibiotics to be most effective in the treatment.

Efficiency of antibiotics action depends on a dose and ability to penetrate into the cell.

The main factor of antibiotics action is penetration into the infected cell because active components work in cellular level. Then active antibiotics components start the pharmacological action.

The mechanism of action is shown as follows:

  • Destroying of cellular bacteria wall (it destroys a protective bacterium layer, not bacterium itself),
  • Blockings of respiratory enzymes in bacteria
  • Deranged function cellular membrane responsible for bacterium metabolism and protein synthesis
  • Suppression of nucleic acids synthesis
  • So, action of antibiotics either kills bacterium cells, or creates conditions for action blocking which further are killed by organism immunity.
